I am very sorry but the UKBA is entitle to refuse applications for UK citizenship if the applicant has any convictions which are not considered "spent" under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974. A custodial sentence greater than 2.5 years can never become spent. You son will not be able to naturalise as a UK citizen under the current legislation.
