Hello, I hope I can offer you some assistance.

Is this the tailgate that won't open? Or a rear passenger door?

Let me know and I'll reply as soon as I'm able to.

Thank you.

Customer replied 274 days and 10 hours ago.

Hi Sean are you still with me on this problem

Hello again, sorry I was still logged in but not at my computer.

The usual fault that causes this concern is the tailgate latch itself. To open the tailgate requires damaging the latch, you need to cut a hole in the plastic and release it. Below shows where you need to cut, there are a couple of style latches so I'll include both.

graphic

number 1 is a new style latch, the arrow shows where you need to cut the plastic number 2 is the old style. I suspect given the age of your car that it will be an old style latch.

If you can access the latch then you need to cut as shown below and release the latch.graphic

If you can't access the latch then you need to remove the scuff plate along the boot floor and unbolt the latch striker, the tailgate will then open with the striker still attached, you then cut the latch and release the latch as shown below.

Cut as shown above and release with a screwdriver as shown below.

Obviously to access the latch to start with you need to fold the seats down, also before doing this make sure you have a new latch to fit.

Let me know if I can assist any further or if you have more questions.

Best wishes,

Sean.

Hello again,

as I said previously if you can't see the latch properly you need to remove the scuff panel, it clips in, lift it up to unclip it.

The scuff panel is number 3 shown below, you can then unbolt the striker plate.

Let me know if I can assist further.

Best regards,

Sean.

Hi Sean sorry that will not work seems like the scuff is a hole and not a slot for the latch and will only pull out about 1"

Hello again, the scuff panel only needs to come up enough to remove the two striker bolts. Then the whole lot should come up. The only other option it to remove the tailgate trim panel, this has a screw in each side in the handle then it unclips. You should then be able to access the latch.

Let me know if I can help any further.

Best regards,

Sean.
