My Ford Transit Connect. Just had the gear-change cable replaced but the gear selection is still very noisy when putting it into gear. Especially 3rd. With the van jacked up and put into gear, when moving the wheel this same rattling noise can be heard and I wonder if it is the gearbox or clutch? Or gear fluid loss? (wishful thinking)

Hi, I hope I can assist you. Have you checked the gear oil level? Also, can you feel a vibration through the clutch pedal? Does the noise go away when the clutch pedal is fully pressed down? I look forward to hearing from you. Best wishes, Paul
I have not checked the gear oil level yet, no. I have not noticed any vibration from the clutch pedal. The noise is as I put the gearstick into gear and a horrible clunking noise happens. Is fine once in gear, and also when clutch pedal is released. Although when clutch bites the gear there is often a bad, though less audible noise...
Hi, thanks for the reply. From how you are describing it, it does sound as though it is a gearbox fault internally. I would advise letting a garage having a quick look, getting them to check the oil first. Then, if it is the gearbox, they are a common box, and I think you should be able to get a second hand box, or even or recon box pretty cheap. I hope this helps you. If you have any further questions, please ask. Best wishes, Paul
