A friend of mine went through the form E route and it took

This answer was rated:

A friend of mine went through the form E route and it took a year to sort it out. Her ex had 3 court dates cancelled because he wanted more time. This is what is putting me off. It seem to me ex husbands have the power to delay everything even when the courts are involved. This happened 4 years ago can this still happen as the experience of my ex at the moment, as you know, is to delay everything. Do I risk putting the form in and pray this doesn't happen?
I do understand your quandary.
The other option is that you continue negotiating and there is delay that way.
The court may well take a year to reach a conclusion - but the sooner that you start the process the sooner it will be over
