Customer Question

I have a Panasonic SA-NC6 DVD Stereo System. As a result of the children playing with the system, in my absence, when I now press the buttons (which open the CD tray and CD track select etc.) on the fascia of the system the screen comes up with the word 'locked' and nothing happens. How do I 'unlock' these buttons so that I can utilise them again? We have never used the remote control with the system and we were advised by the dealer when we bought the system that the system does not have any child locks. There must be some combination of buttons to press to 'unlock' the system?

Hello. I can't seem to find any child lock feature on that unit but it indeed have a rating system. That said it should ask for a password, not just lock the system.

On many system unlocking a CD/DVD is simply to press the stop button on the unit for some seconds.

On that particular model they mention it's possible to reset the rating by pressing stop on the unit and ">=10" on the remote together for 10 sec. As i said, i really don't know if this apply in your particular case. The remote is model N2QAYB000112 and i found it here:
http://www.avukltd.com/remotecontrolsearch.php?item_id=code_6056&action=send_details
(note, i personally never ordered from this place).

As the support for that particular model is really weird (i needed to go to Panasonic Mexico to get my hand on a manual), call UK Customer Communications Centre at 0844(NNN) NNN-NNNNto get more information if needed.

Green Owl. THanks for coming back to me. However I have followed your suggestion and it does not resolve my problem. Do you have any further suggestions? Hugo

Green Owl - I have no further information to give you and was hoping that you would come up with further suggestions.

Good news, i was able to get my hand on the service manual.

The lock you are referring to is not a child lock but a "sale lock" to prevent customer to steal a DVD then the unit is demoed in a store.

We where not too far from the solution by guessing :)

There is 2 possible lock (those are toggle function, they lock and unlock):
"
9.5.1. Setting
· Prohibiting removal of disc
1. Select the DVD/CD function.
2. At POWER ON condition, press and hold down the [STOP] ] button and the power button on the player for at least three
seconds. (The message, “_ _ _LOCKED_” appears when the function is activated.)
Note:
OPEN/CLOSE and DISC EXCHANGE buttons are invalid and the player displays “_ _ _LOCKED_” while the lock function mode
is entered.

· Prohibiting operation of selector and disc
1. Select the DVD/CD function.
2. AT POWER ON condition, press and hold down the [PLAY] button and the power button on the player for at least three
seconds. (The message, “_ _ _LOCKED_” appears when the function is activated.)
Note:
The following buttons are invalid and the player displays “_ _ _LOCKED_” while the lock function mode is entered.

9.5.2. Cancellation
The lock can be cancelled by the same procedure as used in setting. (“UNLOCK” is displayed on cancellation. Disconnecting the
power cable from power outlet does not cancel the lock.)
"

I really hope this solve the problem this time :)
