Customer Question

Hello

I have the same problem as a previous questioner: I have a Philips SLC7 2E LA TV and when the digital switchover came I retuned as required and all the channels came up with no difficulty. However, the next day, after the TV had been off for some time, when I switched on again all the channels (with the exception of BBC1 and BBC2 and possibly a few others) had been lost. I got them back by going through the re-tuning procedure, but it is a bit of a drag having to do this every day! Is there a quick and easy way of solving this problem please?

Already Tried:
Re - tuning every day, and I did try phoning Currys who supplied the TV (3 years ago) and they wanted £50 before they would agree to look at it.

Hello,

Thank you for using justanswer.com, my name is XXXXX XXXXX X will be glad to assist you with your concern today.

This means that the tv is not retaining its channel setting memory once the tv is turned off which woul require and internal repair. If the tv is not that old you would need to check with your local laws and company provided warranty info as the problem may be covered under the factory warranty.

This is so long as your not only scanning for the channels but also set the tv to scan and add/save them.

If you need further assistance just let me know.

Thanks,

Joe

Hello Joe

Thanks for replying. I realise that the TV is not retaining the channel settings in its memory once it is switched off - though it used to do before digital switchover day. The TV is a Philips SLC7 2E LA TV and I bought it about three and a half years ago, when I was told that it would be OK when digital switchover occurred. Is there any repair I can do myself? Perhaps a part that needs replacing or renewing?

Thanks

Colin

There would be one of two things used, either the power supply supplies a small amount of power at all times for the memory retention or an internal battery small and round is placed on the board for memory.

One way to know is before if you unplugged the tv from the wall/mains and the tv could be plugged back in and still had the channels then it uses an internal memory battery this battery is either able to be removed by popping out or they solder them in place.

If you need further assistance just let me know,

Thanks,

Joe
