Customer Question

Is anyone able to help resolve a problem on a Toshiba 55PJ6DB please?

Optional Information:
Make: Toshiba
Model: 55PJ6DB

Already Tried:
Unplugged at the socket. One hour later plugged back to the power supply. Red light comes on at the front switch and the "Click up" sound from the relay to power up is heard at the same moment. Almost without a pause, the relay makes the "Click down" sound without the front power button having been pressed again. At the back of the television I have removed the cover and checked the small fuse on the power supply and it has not blown.

Hello
Welcome
Thanks for using JustAnswer

When the set relay clicks down what is the situation with the light in the front is it blinking/solid and also what colour is it?

Hi Anthony and thanks for getting back to me so quickly. The situation was that the red "on" light cycled between green and red each 3 seconds or so. However the television is now doing something else. After unplugging and plugging in I have a steady red light at the front. The relay clicked up. The light is steady red. I have sound. I have no pictures. When I move from each input (TV, AV1, AV2, AV3, TV etc) the screen remains black. No blue screen on AV2 or AV3 as would be expected. Sound from the Sky box comes through on TV and AV1 only. The volume switch at the remote control does work the volume on the television.

Thanks again and I hope that you are able to help.

Hi

The set is shutting down because its detecting a short circuit favourites for this are the convergene chips so these would need to be eliminated firstly then checks made in the line output stage for short circuit line transistor, Im afraid its no easy fix this its going to take diagnosis with a meter.....

Thanks Anthony. My previous engineer at Alternative Electronics http://www.locallife.co.uk/jersey/moreinfo.asp?site=JERSEY&p3link=1138&dispmode=map has declined due to retirement. Are you able to travel to Jersey? STKs have been replaced around six years ago by Alternate. Are you interested in going this far?

Hi

Unfortunately I have serious work commitments in scotland at present I do understand your predicament here, the only thing I can do is offer advice here, if you can use a meter and soldering iron I could provide more advice but if you cant please dont bother you will make things much worse than they already are
These projection sets as you can imagine run very hot and heat is electronic components worst enemy, the sets were only originally designed for a 5 year life cycle because of the heat so its a credit they have run on as long as they have, just moving things in there could bring on new unforeseen faults like dry joints etc

Let me know if you have any follow up questions
Many Thanks
Anthony
