Hello and welcome to JustAnswer!

The engine light is on because the engine controller saw a failure in a monitored component or system and set a fault code. There are literally dozen of things that will turn the lights on.

The problem could potentially be any engine sensor, an aftertreatment system issue, a transmission related problem, wiring, even the engine controller itself.

The first thing that needs to be done is use a scan tool or code reader to see what fault codes have set in the engine controller and testing can be done from there.
