Hello and welcome to JustAnswer!

If the only thing turning off is instrument cluster illumination then the problem will be an internal failure in the cluster itself. If you were losing all illumination along with the headlamps and park lamps then a switch issue would be possible, or if all illumination was being lost then it could be an issue with the dimmer portion of the switch, but if the problem is with instrument cluster illumination only then the problem is in the cluster.

Cost will vary depending on local parts and labor prices and where you take the vehicle. There are several different instrument clusters ranging in price depending on exact vehicle build, but it will be in the $5-700 range.
