Customer Question

Hi there my cars alarm sounds after I connect my battery
JA: Have you tested the battery with a voltmeter? And can you see if it's leaking or not?
Customer: No but it's a new battery
JA: What is the make/model/year of your car?
Customer: Honda accord ls 1999
JA: Are you fixing your Accord yourself? What have you tried so far?
Customer: Well I tried to connect the battery and then open and close locks and I tried to start ignition a few times with key in ignition
JA: Anything else you want the mechanic to know before I connect you?

When I connect my battery to my car the car alarm sounds on my honda accord ls 1999. How can I stop this without the key fob
Expert:  Honda-Man replied 6 months ago.

Use the key in the door lock. Lock then unlock it with the battery connected.

Expert:  Honda-Man replied 6 months ago.

This is the manual reset procedure.

Customer: replied 6 months ago.
It doesn't work I tried that. The alarm keeps sounding
Expert:  Honda-Man replied 6 months ago.

Did you try both doors? Is it a siren or the horn honking?

Customer: replied 6 months ago.
Only the drivers door has the door lock and it's more of a siren
Expert:  Honda-Man replied 6 months ago.

OK then you have a aftermarket non Honda alarm. Look under the drivers side dash for a small black or red push button. With the alarm sounding turn the ignition on and then press the button.

Expert:  Honda-Man replied 6 months ago.

Examples of the disarm button.

Customer: replied 6 months ago.
There is no alarm push button
Expert:  Honda-Man replied 6 months ago.

All aftermarket alarms have one as long as the installer put it in. it might be hard to find like tucked up under the dash or zip tied to a wiring harness. Might be a switch too?

Customer: replied 6 months ago.
I don't think there's any after market alarms on this car
Expert:  Honda-Man replied 6 months ago.

Honda alarms use the horn honking as the siren. Aftermarket or add on alarms use a siren device. Honda's go honk honk honk etc. Sirens have a wide variety of sounds.

Customer: replied 6 months ago.
To be honest it does sound more like a honk rather than a siren
Customer: replied 6 months ago.
it must be the honda alarm
Expert:  Honda-Man replied 6 months ago.

OK then try this, turn the key on then hook up the battery.

Customer: replied 6 months ago.
It still sounds.
Expert:  Honda-Man replied 6 months ago.

Leave a door open.

Expert:  Honda-Man replied 6 months ago.

You tried it that fast?

Customer: replied 6 months ago.
I tried that too.
Customer: replied 6 months ago.
If it's a new car battery would that affect the alarm
Customer: replied 6 months ago.
The positive red cable is already on as soon as I touch the black cable to the battery post the alarm sounds
Customer: replied 6 months ago.
It's like a continuous honk
Customer: replied 6 months ago.
Yep
Expert:  Honda-Man replied 6 months ago.

So it does not honk honk just steady honking?

Customer: replied 6 months ago.
steady honking
Expert:  Honda-Man replied 6 months ago.

Does it start?

Customer: replied 6 months ago.
No
Expert:  Honda-Man replied 6 months ago.

Try pulling the fuse I highlighted in the under-hood fuse box.

Customer: replied 6 months ago.
It's stopped sounding
Expert:  Honda-Man replied 6 months ago.

OK, do the lights flash and will it start?

Customer: replied 6 months ago.
No the lights don't flash and it doesn't start
Expert:  Honda-Man replied 6 months ago.

Does anything work like the headlights etc?

Customer: replied 6 months ago.
No they dont
Expert:  Don 'Mo Lurch' replied 6 months ago.

Hi.....sorry for the Delay......
Try this:
Be sure the Battery is fully charged
Disconnect the Positive Battery Cable
Open Driver Door & LEAVE Open
Reinsert Fuse (47) into the Fuse Panel
Turn Ignition Switch to ON & LEAVE ON
Reconnect the Positive Battery Cable
Alarm may sound for a few seconds & should shut off
Start Vehicle
Let me know what happens
