Megane 2L petrol sport 2006 has developed a coolant leak in

Customer Question

Megane 2L petrol sport 2006 has developed a coolant leak in a rubber bulb to the right (as you look into the engine from front) of engine block which I think is above the thermostat. The garage here will fix it but I wondered what is the PURPOSE of this bulb and if indeed it is above or anything to do wit hthe thermostat.
JA: How old are the hoses? And have you tested the actual mix of your coolant?
Customer: hoses are same age as the car. No I would not know how to check teh coolant mix!
JA: What is the model of your '06 Renault?
Customer: It's a megan cabriolet 2 Litre sport Lux Privilege - I left off the last biit as I think it's not relevant!
JA: Are you fixing your vehicle yourself? What have you tried so far?
Customer: No (I am 70 years old and I have no garage) Car is left wit hthe garage to fix. I'm just interested in the function of this bulb as I used to fix EVERYTHING on my cars.
JA: Anything else you want the mechanic to know before I connect you?
Customer: No
