Customer Question

Hello,
I drive a 2007 Durango, 5.7 AWD. Since several weeks I have clunk from the rear, when i drive right through a spend. The wheel bearings are new, also the watts link. What could be the problem?

Hello and welcome to JustAnswer!

If you have a clunk from the rear that happens over bumps and the watt's link has been replaced then I would first suspect the noise is coming from a sway bar link, but it could be a shock, control arm bushing, or the sway bar or lateral arm bushings. A complete inspection of the suspension components should be done. If nothing is seen visually or when trying to move components by hand then try having a helper jounce the suspension while a second person is underneath feeling for play in components, starting with the sway bar links.

Hello, i have shsken the car, but I couldn't reproduce the clunk. I checked everything, but I noticed nothing. Could it also be the Differential?

Does the noise happen over bumps?

Customer: replied 3 months ago.
no, only when I`m driving through a right curve.
Expert:  sprinkles08 replied 3 months ago.

Is it a single clunk or cyclic as long as you're turning?

Customer: replied 3 months ago.
It is a single clunk.

It isn't likely to be coming from the differential. Is there any growling or whining from the rear at higher speeds?
Customer: replied 3 months ago.
No, only the clunk.

I doubt the noise is coming from the differential then, it's almost surely a suspension issue. If you're unable to determine what component is loose then Chassis Ears would be a good way to help find the source.

What are chassis ears?

Very expensive. No other Chance?
Expert:  sprinkles08 replied 3 months ago.

I'm not sure what you mean by 'no other chance?'?

Customer: replied 3 months ago.
To find out the cause of the clunk.

That depends on your personal abilities. It's not usually necessary to use Chassis Ears.
