Customer Question

Good day. I have a '89 2.2 SRX Hilux. A electronic distributor was fitted a few years ago. I serviced the carburator 2 weeks ago and have starting problems ever since. I need to push start and sometime even a pull start to get going. Then for the rest if the day it starts with no problem.
Please help.
Regards
Mark

The engine turns and crank as normal but does not start.

Hi Mark,

Either you have a carb problem or no spark.

Is it not at all now?

Is the auto choke mechanism working?

Hi Gary.
Thank you for your reply. Yesterday I got it started, and while idelling the engine died and I haven't been able to start it since. Currently I'm busy checking the electrical side.

Hi Mark,

Coincidence you have rebuilt the carb, and now this has happened.

Is there fuel in the float bowl?

Have you checked for spark at the plug leads?

Do you need any further help?

Hi Gary. After doing what I could and the engine still refusing to start, I seecked help from a mechanic down the road. He said it would never start as one of the valves doesn't close. So I started to strip the head and took it in to be repaired. Should get it back by this afternoon.
In the mean time I replaced the clutch, front - and rear oil seals and flushed the gearbox, as the gear oil was like very thick. I'm confident that this was the problem and that happy motoring will continue as in the past.
Thank you for your input.
Kind regards
Mark
