Found oil in water tank and all over engine bay. Found

Customer Question

Found oil in water tank and all over engine bay. Found broken metal pieces in oil cooler on the water side.
JA: How many miles are on the car? What size is the engine?
Customer: 150000, 2.2 transit connect
JA: Tell me a bit more about what's going on so he can help you best.
Customer: I've removed the oil and found no signs of water in the oil. I've removed the hose from the water pump this has plenty of oil in it.
JA: Are you hoping to fix this yourself?
Customer: Yes, I just needed a second opinion.
JA: Great! What have you tried so far?
Customer: I've removed the the oil cooler as the is one point where oil and water meet. This item is a bit hard to test. Is it possible for the plate cooler to expand under oil pressure, allowing the oil to pass to the water side?
JA: Is there anything else important you think the Ford Mechanic should know about your Ford?
Customer: I was also thinking head gasket, but I am convinced that water would also be present in the oil
JA: OK. Got it. I'm sending you to a secure page on JustAnswer so you can place the $5 fully-refundable deposit now. While you're filling out that form, I'll tell the Ford Mechanic about your situation and then connect you two.

Hi there,

I have had many oil cooler failures for your concern.

I would replace your cooler, flush the cooling system, replace all the hoses, and the header tank etc.

Run just water for a week or so, then another flush out, then new coolant.

Engine oil and filter change, when happy with cooling system.

Hope this helps.
