Customer Question

HI, I RECENTLY IMPORTED A 2008 MALOO R8 WITH 42000KM[FSH] FROM A DEALER IN PERTH.INTO SWAZILAND, SOUTHERN AFRICA. THE DEALER STATED THE VEHICLE WAS IN A 100% MECHANICAL CONDITION, HOWEVER WHEN THE VEHICLE ARRIVED THE OIL PRESSURE GAUGE DID NOT FUNCTION PROPERLY. IT WOULD VARY FROM VIRTUALLY ZERO PRESSURE AND THEN MOVE UP 2 NOTCHES AND DROP AGAIN. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO REPUTABLE DEALER AND CHECKED EVERYTHING TO FINALLY DISCOVER THE CAMSHAFT BEARINGS HAD COLLAPSED. DOES THIS SEEM POSSIBLE AND HOW COME. AT 42000KM ? --TOTALLY DISALLUTIONED

Hi there,

The LS engines are known for roller lifter failure, camshaft bearings worn, and oil pump regulator valve jamming open, which gives no oil pressure at idle.

If they have gone that far with the engine with a strip down, MAKE SURE they replace the oil pump.

The regulator valve is probably the "real fault".

Have seen many.
