i was idling for over an hour in very hot weather. When I started driving the check emissions light started blinking and the car ran roughly until it stopped completely. I turned it off for a few minutes and restarted and everything appeared normal

Hi, my name is ***** ***** it was very hot outside and you idles that long, the most likely cause is the fumes in the fuel tank expanded and got into the emmissions cannister and set the code, and then once driven, it cleared out, did it ever come back on?
