Hi..I have a Vauxhall vectra est 1.9 sri cdti 150bhp on a 54 plate, I need a new EGR valve, my car has a 4 pin plug with feed to all 4 pins to the EGR valve, the prob I seem to be having is that Everywhere I try to get a 4 pin type EGR valve, I cant get one, only a 2 pin type, even the main vauxhall parts dealer in cardiff say there do not have one on there system, Can you help please, is there a up grade to the wiring and plug?, I have also seen the same car as mine and same year, but that has a 2 pin plug, so I cant understand why my car has a 4 pin plug, nor can the vauxhall dealer, and 2 of my mates that work in garages, hope you can help in some way. thank you. Derek.

Hi......do you need any more info from me, if you please just ask, I have asked other people about my prob, but im still coming up with a blank, seems to be a bit of a prob this one.....
Hi, sorry to keep you, There is definitely only a 2 pin EGR for both the Z19DT and DTH engines, the plug can have up to 6 terminals wired to it but only pins 1 and 5 are used. I have fitted dozens of these valves and to be honest I have not taken too much notice of the extra wires but I have examined a couple of cars today and am positive the 2 pin valve is correct. The valves do not have a built in feedback sensor as the feedback is calculated from the decrease in air flow from the air flow meter, the harnesses are made in a separate factory to the engines and the extra wiring will be due to the design stage as to whether it was to use a feedback type sensor or not, the powers that be will of decided that the best option at the time would be to us only a 2 pin solenoid working on a pulse width modulation signal. Below is a section of the engine schematics showing the EGR (Y56) and the 2 wires going to pins 1 and 5. I hope this clears this up for you , fit the new valve and I am sure it will be OK. Best regards, Vauxdoc.
Hi... thank for that....would you be able to tell me, is pin 1 or 5 the live feed, or do both have a feed, and please can you tell what reading the pins should have? as the new ERG valve is working, as we tryed it on another car, so we think it mite be the wiring, or plug conectors. Thanks again.
Sure, pin 1 is a 12 volt permanent feed and pin 5 is a pulsed earth from the ECU working on a PWM signal (pulsed width modulation) and would be measured as a duty cycle on a scope.
Experience: over 25 years from viva to vectra
Hi...thanks for the last info, plug one has a 12v feed, and plug 5 has a pulsed feel, the ERG valve is working, as we have put it on another the same as mine, and its works fine, but we have now tryed 3 differant computers, and thay all come up with the same thing saying ERG valve open circuit !!!!!!!!!! its got everyone scratching there head, have you got any thoughts on this that mite help please... Thanks very much.
Can you give me the exact code number (P****) and the 2 number symptom that follows ?
I see if im able to get that in the morn for you, thanks
OK, thanks.
Hi.....the computer came back with
ERG open circuit P0400
no numbers were after that thow, the engine managment light is on as well
Thanks
OK, then we need to test the wiring..........you say terminal 1 has 12 volts so Unplug the ECU switch the ignition on and test terminal 5 of the EGRFor less than 0.3 volts to earth then test for over 500Kohm to earth then less than 5 ohm between terminal 5 and terminal 60 of the ECU pictured below.
ok, will do that 2moro. Thanks
