Customer Question

hi i have a fiat scudo van on a 57 plate 2 liter it starts but will not rev unless intercooler hose is removed and then only to about 2000 rpm before missing and smoking. inter cooler is very oily and the smoke is a biscuit colour and thick the intercooler needs replacing as it is leeking spraying oil out (top tank)

Country: United Kingdom
Make: Fiat
Model: scudo
Year: 2007
Engine: 2000 120 multi jet

Already Tried:
ive had it on a lap top came up with low turbo pressure which as it at the time it would not start im sure it would changed fuel and air filters removed top intercooler hose at engine (it would then start and tick over

shadeydaz :

There is a pressure sensor on the intercooling system. This measures boost pressure. If for say a reason of a leak, like you say you have, it will recognise that there is a leak and put the engine into limp home mode, and, or won't rev. The pressure leak needs to be repaired first, then a scan tool test needs to be performed and the fault codes erased. Thanks Darren

Customer :

i have a new intercooler ordered but my engine will not run at the minute with the intercooler hoses connected also the amount of oil in the cooler is far from normal

shadeydaz :

Oil it's self will not start the motor from starting up, there must be another reason. There are 2 ways that oil can get into the intercooler. From the breather system of from the turbo seal. Make sure that the engine has not been overfilled, make sure that all breather pipes are clear and unblocked. Before you start the engine you must clean any excess oil from all intercooler pipes, as this can cause the engine to over rev and destroy itself.
