Hi, I have a 2003 Range Rover L322 TD6 with the BMW 3 litre 6 cyl engine. About 2 weeks ago, it refused to start. Engine cranking at full speed, just not firing. Spray "Holts Cold Start" into the air intake, and it fires up, ticks over, and will rev to nearly 5000RPM, in and out of gear. Turn the engine off, and it will not start without the spray. The secondary fuel pump under the floor was changed, no better. An Autologic computer showed injector number 2 showing 4.7, all others were 1 or .75.Injector 2 was changed, the engine now has a bit more power, but will not start. Diesel filter changed this morning, no better.I swapped the fuel relay for an identical one off the same panel, no difference.

Hello and Welcome to justanswer...The problem you have here, all other things ruled out and with the results of the tests you have done, is problems with that injector. What happens with these is, if you get even one faulty injector, the engine wont start on the key - this is because the injector is faulty losing pressure. The engine management ecu / computer needs to see / register that the pressures are all correct -and then it allows the engine to start ....if something it sees is wrong ..as you have there...it wont allow it to start...to prevent running the engine with a faulty injector etc and risk damage...So that given all that you have outlined, is the problem here - you therefore need to have someone to either replace the injector or see if it can be repaired if you have a specialist in your area... which I would recommend the use of really... but thats whats needed to get this sorted for you now.

I have already replaced injector 2 with a reconditioned exchange injector from a reputable bosch injector workshop. The engine now has slightly more power, but will still not start without the spray.

Hello again John, thank you for your reply .Our posts crossed -and I was helping others meantime. That is the situation with how the system works - have you reset the ecu now then? and run checks / tests for any other faults....fault codes and fuel pressure / flow etc etc ?Rgds, MIKE...................................
Can I reset the ECU without a diagnostic computer?
Hi again John...No sadly - that has to be done with the diag machine....and thats often gets forgotten by garages and then such problems ensue...so given what you have said / described, I feel thats whats needed here now John as you have done all else..Sorry if I wasn't clear before - By all means get back to me again if you need - Im always here though do have breaks - If you do need anything else/ get back to me, I will always get back to you asap after...
