car tremor and loss of power when accelerating 55 to 70
change down to regain safe speed

Already Tried:
nothing mechanical, simply changing down to try to get the engine to respond and gain power.

Welcome to Just Answer, There are a couple of possible causes for this type of fault, the first is a fault on the turbo boost control system, this can be caused by a faulty waste gate actuator solenoid .

Next is a faulty EGR valve, when these go wrong usually there is power loss through the range.

As this fault seems severe then the engine management computer (ECU) will have detected it and logged a fault code.

The way forward is to have the ECU tested for codes and then repair as necessary, this can be tested at most good garages not just main dealers.
