hi.

there are a few issues that can cause this but we will try to narrow them down.

1 thermostat.

2 waterpump

these two are the suspects.

if you thermostat is sticking then the coolant will have a restricted flow but you can conduct a test to prove this or disprove run the engine until the temp gauge sits on its normal position then feel the radiator pipes are they both at about the same temp.

if not and one is a lot cooler then the thermostat is the problem.

the water pump can also cause a flow problem if the impeller has become detached from the shaft but this will still allow a flow of coolant although restricted but on the basis of hot water rises etc.the hoses will feel about the same temp.

please take care when touching the hoses as the exhaust can be very hot .

sorry you should have said the fan was innop.

so please ignore my previous mail.

you need to replace the fan switch .

this is the likely cause .

the switch is called a engine coolant temperature sensor this is what controls the fan operation .
