Hi, I have a ford focus estate zetec TDCI 2005 manual model. It is getting very lazy when I go on first and even the second gear but from the 3rd gear onwards after a while it seem to speed up at once. When driving up a hill sometimes have to apply second gear or even the first gear! Do you think this has anything to do with the turbo? Thanks

I definitely thing this may have something to do with your turbo. Is it blowing any smoke? Can you remove the intake hose to the turbo whilst the engine is not running, and check if there is any play in the turbo shaft. There should be no play at all. none up and down and none in and out. Cheers Mark
Hi Mark, thanks for your advise. I just checked the turbo and it looks fine there is no play up or down nor in and out. It does not blow any smoke neither. When turbo picks up while car is running it makes like a `siren'noise and it will cut off when engine reaches approx 3000 rev/m
You may need to look at your waste gate hose or actuator. It is a small hose that goes from the intake side of the turbo to an actuator that opens and closes an internal flap in the exhaust side of the turbo. If this is leaking or faulty then your waste gate may not be moving and causing your trouble. If your not comfortable with removing the hose then I would recommend taking the car to a garage. If you do want to try it yourself, remove the hose and block one end while you suck on the other. If you cant get vacuum then the hose is faulty. Next attach it to the actuator and try sucking again. IF you cant get vacuum then you may have a hole in the diaphragm. I hope this helps. Cheers Mark
