Hello and Welcome to justanswer...

Usually its the bonnet catch itself that is partially seizing causing this -

As the handle has broken - you are best now getting a pair of mole grips attached to the cable in the car - and then - have a helper... to get a grip of the end of the bonnet - and push down and pull up rhythmically as you pull on the grips / cable...

This will usually open the bonnet - and then a new cable wil need to be fitted - and make sure the catch / lock is well lubricated and greased.

They should get greased at regular services to prevent this happening - but they often dont get done....and you end up with this situation - but working through as above will usually get the bonnet open and then you can go from there..

I Sincerely XXXXX XXXXX have helped you - but do ask me if you need anything more..

Kind Rgds, MIKE
