Is it worth remapping a renault laguna 1.9dci 130?.
Country: United Kingdom
Hello
Any remapping activity on a modern engine like this, which hasnt had any modifications to the engine to take advantage of, is fairly pointless.
There is no doubt that there will be some improvements made in fuel economy etc however this is at the expense of other area's such as durability and emissions.
The vehicle will comply to local MOT type tests but this is not anything like the emissions tests which are performed to allow the vehicle to be certified, this is far more detailed and covers more gases.
There are some easy calculations which will highlight whether there is a benefit to be had.
Using rounded figures, a 20% improvement in fuel economy is 20p per liter saving.
A 400GBP chip, requires a usage of 2000L of fuel which, give or take could take you 20,000 miles to see you break even...
All the best
