CHEVROLET TACUMA 05 PLATE 1.6. WARNING MALFUNCTION LIGHT ON DASH KEEPS COMING ON DIAGNOSTIC TEST FORM AA STATES EGR VALVE. TOOK TO GARAGE LIGHT WENT BACKOUT BEFORE GARAGE DONE ANYTHING. GARAGE THEN CLEANED THE EGR VALVE. 3 DAYS LATER LIGHT BACK ON AND LOSS OF POWER AGAIN. BACK TO GARAGE GOT TOWED BY AA THEIR DIAGNOSTIC TEST AGAIN SHOWED UP CODE FOR EGR VALVE. BY THE TIME THE CAR WAS TOWED TO THE GARAGE 1HR LATER WARNING LIGHT WENT OUT AGAIN AND WHEN GARAGE RAN THEIR OWN DIAGNOSTICS TEST NOTHING COULD BE FOUND? CAR STILL HAS LOSS OF POWER AND GARAGE RELUCTANT TO FIT NEW EGR VALVE AS WHEN THEY CLEANED IT IT DIDNT LOOK BROKEN. THEY HAVE SUGGESTED VALVES IN THE EXHAUST MIGHT BE CAUSING THE BREAKDOWN AS THEY SAY IT DOESNT SHOW ON THE DIAGNOSTIC CHECK. PRICE TO FIX EGR £300 PRICE TO FIX EXHAUST VALVES £700. WHAT DO YOU THINK?
BEEN LOOKED AT BY GARAGE AND THE AA BOTH HAVE DIFFERENT OPINIONS. EGR VALVE AND EXHAUST VALVES HAVE BEEN CLEANED AND FLUSHED OUT WITH SOME CLEANER THAT THE GARAGE USED BUT LOSS OF POWER STILL ONGOING AND LIGHT BACK ON FOR THE 3 RD TIME
Hi I would go with the EGR valve and if you don't want to pay £300 on a gamble you can try blanking it off and running the car with it blanked off for a while. If the fault goes then you will need a new EGR valve and they are very common to fail on these cars and cause a loss of power.
If it was a problem with the exhaust valves you would get a misfire fault code coming up and not a EGR valve fault code come up.
I hope this helps
