1996 VW Golf: Central locking..Drivers door..unlock..the plastic clips

Customer Question

Central locking problem with 1996 VW Golf - Drivers door unlocks with key but none of the other doors unlock, only by lifting the plungers, cant get into the boot at all, have sprayed WD40 the doors through the plunger holes, tried taking the door skin off but seemed that I was about to brake the plastic clips, levering with a screw driver.

OK can you open the other doors manually?
Customer: replied 6 years ago.

Yes all other three doors open manually, the boot cannot be opened, key may not be original as it does not fit passangers door, dont have a second key.

Ok the most common issue is a failing door lock actuator for this issue.Sometimes the door harness wiring going into the door the pins break or a wire.HAs this been checked?
Customer: replied 6 years ago.

Nothing inside the doors has been checked.

Expert:  Cardoctor74 replied 6 years ago.
OK you need to check the wiring in the door and the actuator itself. Most common is the drivers door lock actuator.Do you need instructions on removing the door panel?

Thanks for the picture, it doesnt look like the my 1996 Golf but assume its safe to just use a screw driver to lever the panel off, I managed to find how the window winder handle comes off, but not the door opener handle yet.

Yes the screw driver will work fine.
