how do I remove the radio in grand scenic
Year: 2003Make: RenaultModel: Grand ScenicEngine: 1.6 petrol Already Tried: I have lost the PIN code for my radio. I understand that if I take it out it should have its serial number on it and from there there are a number of websites which, if you provide the serial no. you get the PIN. I have tried to pry it out but am conscious of marking the fascia
Hi. If the radio has got two holes each end then there are some removing pins you can purchase from Halfords or similar which are inserted to allow the removal. If you do not have these it is possible to use pop rivets or similar inserted into the holes to remove. If you have got the later type units there may be a horizontal slot each side of the fascia. Again there is a special tool to remove this as well. It is possible to remove using a thin metal strip each side and the catches then push towards the centre of the unit, but this type is more tricky to remove without the tool and you can damage the retaining clips if not careful. If your vehicle is the older type Scenic and the radio has just two round holes at the front, again there is a special tool for removal, but again two pop rivets can do the job as well if your careful. As you have no doubt gathered by now to remove the units requires special tools, but you can remove without using other similar shaped items with care. The units that can be tricky are the two horizontal slots design and my advice would be to try and get the special tools for these. With regards XXXXX XXXXX code Renault may have the correct code on their system, but can certainly get the correct code for you if you can provide the serial numbers. I don't think they would charge much more than the websites and they can guarantee the code is correct for the unit numbers. If you brought the car from your Renault dealer I would expect them to give you the radio code without charge. I hope this helps. Kind regards
Unfortunately it seems that the tool catches on one side, but not on other
Hi. If you have got the two holes on either side sometimes if you gently push the tools to the outside edge it will release. If you have got the horizontal slots as mentioned before these can be trickier, and it really is trial and error. If you can remove the unit below it you can sometimes get your fingers to the side of the unit and push in the metal retaining prongs to release. One other thing to try is undoing the most awkward side first and then the side that you can release. It will also depend on if someone has been there before and possibly bent or misaligned the retaining pieces. If your vehicle is a Scenic II then you can release the whole surround including the radio as well by removing the glovebox, gear lever surround, lower trim panel in front of steering column, and release all the 20 torx screws from the central surround and it just pulls towards you including the radio still in it's trim panel. I hope this helps. Kind regards
