I have a Volvo 960 2.5 24v 1995 which has bad idling as if choke is on.I have replaced plugs, idle speed sensor,Lamda sensor and Air mass meter which has inproved it slightly. It drives with no problems until tickover.I have also had the ECU bench tested with no faults found.any suggestions would be appreciated. Optional Information: 1995 Volvo 960 Saloon 2.5 24valve Already Tried: Changed Air Mass Meter,Idle speed sensor,Lamda(O2)sensor,Spark Plugs,Compression test, air intake leak test,ECU bench test, engine bay wiring check,
It could be an air leak, where there is any leak in the intake after the air mass meter the engine will pull in air and so lean out the engine casuing uneven running.Check all the joints for tightness / hose condition / splits etc after the meter first then if this doesn't show any improvment then try:The best way to find an air leak is to have the engine running and to spray lighter gas around each joint after the meter. As the lighter gas is fuel, if an air- leak is present the engine will pull it in along with the air and rev-up.You may have to make up a bit of hose with a flattened piece of pipe in the end to give you a 'wand' to wave around the intake and get into the nooks and crannies but this method works very wellMatt

My local speicalist have said that they did an air leak test but they also told me it was an engine bay wiring fault (Checked wiring myself everything ok.)I will check air leaks tommorow using your method. Thanks
