Hi,
I have a Smeg ST521 dishwasher and it isn't working,
When I try to start it, it makes the usual sounds and then it just stop.
Then, when I open the door it beeps.
What should I do?

When you open the door are any of the program lights flashing?7

If so then number them from left to right with 1 on the left, Which lights are flashing?

Thanks for that. Light 4 flashing is a alternate valve fault.

The alternate valve is basically a diverter valve under the dishwasher which sends the water to the spray arms as it switches between the top arm and the bottom. There will be an issue with that which is causing the error code.

What you need to do is pull the dishwasher out and lie it on its back and remove the bottom base panel.

From there locate the diverter valve, Its located in between the hose from the wash motor to the spray arms in the sump bowl. Remove this and give it a clean out as you can get debris in there. Refit it and secure the wiring blocks on there and then retry it and see how it goes from there.

If still the same then its possibly a fault diverter valve which will need to be replaced. Now the control board can also cause this but its a case of fitting the part to see how it goes from there.

But that's what the error code is reporting its a fault on the diverter valve.
