do we need the plate that covers the flame?

Hi, welcome to Just Answer. My name is ***** ***** I look forward to helping you! There should be a flame shield above the flame. It sounds like the fan is blowing the fan out, perhaps because of a missing heat shield?? Can you post a picture of what you see, please?

Hi Kelly.
Yes, there is one. See attached photo.
Thanks!

Is the flame when lit pretty good sized or is it very small?Has it been converted to run LP?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
It is a bit small. I understood that it was LP. Does it need to be converted?
Expert:  Kelly replied 1 year ago.

On that model it can be either. It looks as if it comes as LP. I suspect the orifice for the burner will need to be adjusted to allow for a bigger flame that will not blow out when the fan is used.

You may also have a low pressure issue to the appliance. I would probably have it professionally looked at so the gas pressure can be measured and any adjustments can be safely made.
