Good morning. this is a common issue , first you want to pour boiling water on the drain until it drains freely . once thats done take a piece of 1/4" plastic tube (like the one that goes to the ice maker) and feed it through the drain all the way down. the tube is stiff enough but flexible enough to feed it through usually all the way which will clear it out. there may be a blockage thats making this freeze up. that should take care of the issue. hope this helps, thanks , Bryan

Thanks Bryan, the drain is not frozen, and a small puddle of water is siting at the opening.I have also looked at the back of the fridge freezer and there is a tray which has an opening above it which i assume is where the surplus water drains to,i have similarly put a coat hanger up this to no effect.

the coat hanger went all the way through ?

No about 6 inches, seems to hit a turn in the pipe.

okay, A coat hanger is to stiff to get it past the bend, do you have a piece of plastic tubing ? its cheap to buy and usually will go all the way through. most likely you have a blockage at the bend.
