I went away from home for a week. I have a lec t5066w fridge-freezer. I emptied the fridge and turned the dial down to 0, believing it to control the fridge temperature. When I came back, the freezer had also lost all its temperature, and the stored food was spoilt. I have turned the dial to it's lowest setting and the freezer returned to normal but the fridge hasn't really cooled down.Is this normal for the model? What should I do?
Hello, When the unit was working perfectly, do you notice a thin coating of frost inside the fridge back wall?
Do you see air vents inside the fridge's back wall?
Hello. To your first question: yes when the dial is above 5. To your second question: there may be vents in the light.
When I just checked the vents, it felt colder. Is it meant to take so long to get to the right temperature?
How long have you turned the unit back to coldest setting?
For almost two hours.
Ok. That is still too short to feel the fridge to its correct temperature. Usually, the manual would say wait 24 hours for the temperature to stabilize. Do you still have food in the freezer?
No, it was all spoilt and I haven't bought anymore.
I'm a student in rented accomadation, and there isn't a manual anywhere in the house. I didn't know about the 24-hour wait.
We usually see it in the manual. But about 6 hours, you should be able to feel the coldness on the fridge if there is no problem with the unit. Please remove all the spoiled food in the freezer and clean the freezer thoroughly in order to prevent the contamination of new foods that you would be putting in the unit.
The freezer has already been cleared and cleaned.
Should the dial in the fridge control the temmperature of the freezer, though? Is that normal?
Yes, that is normal. You only have one controller and it senses the coldness of the fridge. It is assuming that if the fridge is cold, then the freezer should be cold also since the coldness started from the freezer and the fridge is the last part that would cool down.
I see. So by turning the dial, I'm saying if the fridge is too hot or too cold?
Yes. So when you tried to set it to 0, to turn off the fridge, the freezer was affected too since the compressor stopped running, hence the freezer would stop cooling as well.
Right. Thank you very much. While this won't cool the fridge down any quicker, you have helped me understand what's going on, which is what I was hoping for.
You are very much welcome. Glad to be of assistance.
