Resolved Question:

fridge part of Hotpoint FF200E does not get cold - freezer seems ok - do I need to totally defrost and if it does not work is it worth paying £104 to get out a qualified Hotpoint engineer?

Take out the drawers in the freezer.

Is there ice on the bottom or rear wall of the freezer compartment?

Customer: replied 5 years ago.
yes - frosty ice on back rear wall, none on bottom

OK, thanks for that.

You have 2 choices.

1. Fully defrost the appliance.

Unplug it and leave it with the doors open for at least 24 hours in a warm room.

After this time, it should be defrosted.

Close the doors, plug it in and it should work again.

2. unplug the appliance.

Take the rear panels inside the freezer out.

This will reveal the evaporator.

Fully defrost it using a steamer or similar.

Once defrosted, refit the panels and try the machine again.

Once it's back working, keep an eye on it.

If the same problem comes back quickly, you have a defrost problem.

Either the element, thermal fuse or the main control board can be at fault.

If this is the case, it's worth calling Hotpoint out and paying the fixed price repair fee.

(Call Hotpoint, choose one of the parts and labour inclusive packages).

Hope this helps
