How old is the appliance?
Unplug the appliance.
Take the machine out.
Turn off the water supply.
Disconnect the fill hose at the machine.
Leave for 10 minutes.
Reconnect the fill hose.
Turn on the water.
Plug it in again.
Try the machine.
Does it fill?
Tried what you suggested with the dishwasher, but it made no difference.
There is a sound as if water is pumping out, then just a hum and the program dial starts to move, even though no water is going into the machine.
I inherited the appliance with the house, which I moved into nearly 5 years ago.
I would guess it's at least 7 years old, maybe more.

Obtain a quote for repair to the dishwasher.
Once you have the price, you'll be better placed to decide on repair or replace.
Bear in mind, if you repair it, everything else on it is still old.
Personally, at 7 years, I'd be looking to replace it if it were my machine.
