my toshiba kfr-51gw/x1c air con units are 2 months old, hry both were running fine and now it will not heat or cool. We installed 2 units and they both are the same, can you advise what we can do to rectify the problem? We have established that there is not a leak of gas. They were both used on a heat setting before the fault occured.

Hello, The problem would be with the outside unit.. have you checked the power to it?
Have you tried turning the power off for 10 minutes then back on..that acts as reset for various common faults.
Try those, and get back to me.. we continue until we get if fixed or give up.
Hello,
If both coils inside are behaving the same, then the problem is with the outside unit... are you sure the power is on to the outside unit? do you have a multi meter to check that with?
Try this, turn the power off for 10 minutes then back on and see what happens? get back to me, we can try a few other things.
Thanks, XXXXX XXXXX try that one, we have turned the power supply to the unit off before for 5 mins as per the users manual, reconnected the power suplly and tried again but no luck, but we will try the further 10mins and see what happens.
Hello again, if 5 minutes didn't work, 10 minutes probably won't either.
Have you verified power to the outside unit? is the outside unit running or is it off when you fail to get heating or cooling.
Are the inside fans on or off?
The inside and outside units are running, there is fan air coming out is just isn't cool.
The outside unit has both a fan in it and a compressor.. the compressor must be running before the unit will heat or cool...
If the system is low on gas the compressor will not run, unless the compressor is running you will not know if its low on gas or not...just checking pressure with unit off doesn't work.
Next step is to see if the compressor is running, its a big black thing that looks like it weighs 50 pounds or more.. if its been running it will be warm or hot. and if it running at the time you check it. it will be vibrating and the small tube coming off it will be hot.
to get to it you have to take the service panel off.
Make those checks and get back to me.
those checks have been made the pipe going to the unit is cold and the return is warm but not hot. does this look like a call for an air con engineer now?
a
Yes it looks like its time to call a specialist in Toshiba split system heat pumps, those units are totally diffrent in many ways from what most techs are used to..
you need to find the dealer for this job. A mitsibushi, Daikin or Fujitsu split system tech would also have that skill set...but not a regular HVAC technician.
Good luck,
