Customer Question

I have an old Westinghouse TV (LTV-32w6HD). I'm trying to hook up a Sony Blu-ray player(BDP-S1700) with HDMI, but I'm getting "Invalid Format" on the TV. I've tried 4 different HDMI cables. I hooked the blu-ray up to another TV and reset the output to 720p, but still no luck. When the blu-ray player is powered on, I see the Sony logo then it goes to invalid format with the occasional flash of what looks like static.
JA: Just to clarify, what's the exact model of your Sony? And can you guesstimate how old it is?
Customer: Sony is new. Model # is BDP-S1700.
JA: Does the TV menu work? Do you have the same problem on all sources/inputs?
Customer: Everything else works.
JA: How long has this been an issue? What happened right before this popped up?
Customer: I just bought the Sony. I haven't had anything hooked up to the HDMI on the TV for probably more than a year, but it worked the last time I used it.
JA: Anything else you want the TV expert to know before I connect you?
Customer: No, that's it.

The Westinghouse TV only supports 720P, so it's not going to support a BlueRay player at 1080P or 1080i. I understand that you have set the player to 780p, but the blueray may be forcing it to 1080. Are you able to see the menus on the player through the westinghouse tv?

Can't see the menus on the westinghouse, but I hooked it up to another tv and set it to 720p.
