Customer Question

I have a 50 inch samsung smart tv and have blue screen and have sound. I can change channels . I changed the tcon board. No luck.
JA: How old is your Samsung, and have you tried unplugging it and leaving it off for a few hours?
Customer: 2 years old and yes left unplugged overnight.
JA: Does the TV menu work? Do you have the same problem on all sources/inputs?
Customer: No menu . No change with inputs.
JA: How long has this been an issue? What happened right before this popped up?
Customer: Son was changing channels.
JA: Anything else you want the TV expert to know before I connect you?
Customer: I disconnected one side of one ribbon cable on tcon board and got half screen working.

Thanks

Is the screen a bright blue like a no signal screen or dark with just some background light (backlight) ?

Same as with the old t-con ?

No on screen display like volume level ,channel numbers etc. ?

Customer: replied 3 months ago.
Bright blue. You can only shut tv off with remote.
Has sound and can change channels, but no pic, just blue screen.
Expert:  Jack replied 3 months ago.

If you look at the main board (with input connectors) can you see this number BN94-07727C on a bar coded sticker ?

Customer: replied 3 months ago.
Expert:  Jack replied 3 months ago.

O.k then , I`ll start by saying that a defective t-con would`ve given you either distorted picture , vertical lines or almost totally dark with only background light .

What you have is a defective main board namely its video processing circuit .

This board normally sells for less than $40 .

Where did you buy your t-con ?

Customer: replied 3 months ago.
Ebay
Customer: replied 3 months ago.
I get half a screen when removing one side of ribbon cable.
Expert:  Jack replied 3 months ago.

Was it some parts reseller or a private ?

Reason for asking is that you perhaps could`ve returned your t-con in exchange for the main board

In any case i`m looking for your board right now

Expert:  Jack replied 3 months ago.

You mean that you get a picture , like normal picture on half the screen ?

Expert:  Jack replied 3 months ago.

Or you just get a half blue screen ?

Expert:  Jack replied 3 months ago.

Hello ??

Customer: replied 3 months ago.
I get a half of a working screen where it shows channels and snow because I disconnected input signal
Expert:  Jack replied 3 months ago.

O.k and if you switch to the other side , does it do the same thing ?

Customer: replied 3 months ago.
No, only one side
Expert:  Jack replied 3 months ago.

This is worse than i thought then , it would point to a defective panel

Expert:  Jack replied 3 months ago.

You get the same exact response with both t-cons ?

Customer: replied 3 months ago.
The right side, when I switch cables, it starts to work then fades
Customer: replied 3 months ago.
both cards act the same.
Expert:  Jack replied 3 months ago.

This is rather odd .

At this point difficult to call but we know its not the t-con .

I have a main board here that sells for $54 if you want to give it a try ;

Otherwise you are looking at a defective panel .

Only way to find out now is to try it .

Customer: replied 3 months ago.
Anyway to test panel
Expert:  Jack replied 3 months ago.

Nope

Customer: replied 3 months ago.
How about the main board?
Expert:  Jack replied 3 months ago.

You got a link above for that .

You would need service manuals , data and oscilloscopes to see the signal and that is IF you could find data , only way for you is to try it

Customer: replied 3 months ago.
Ok, I see your link for the main board. I hate just changing parts. I thought it was going to be simple.
Expert:  Jack replied 3 months ago.

Nothing simple about electronics i`m afraid , sometimes it will be apparent but not always and your ways of troubleshotting is quite unorthodox , i would `ve replaced the main board right away

Customer: replied 3 months ago.
Other links pointed to TCON. I rushed it.
Expert:  Jack replied 3 months ago.

Yes but that bright blue screen would not be consistent with a t-con (usually)

Customer: replied 3 months ago.
Live and learn.
Expert:  Jack replied 3 months ago.

Wish i could be more specific but in this case there is no other ways but to try it
