Not sure why you cannot reply...
If you change channels and access the guide via a provider's remote on an HD cable/sat box or dvr, then you have to turn captions off/on using that provider's remote, not the tv remote. Look for a CC or Caption button on their remote, if there is none then you will need to go into the Settings > Audio menu and turn off the captions.
