Trying to determine if a 2009 Sony Bravia KDL 30L5000 TV is

Customer Question

Trying to determine if a 2009 Sony Bravia KDL 30L5000 TV is HD compatibl.
JA: What's the model number of your TV? How old is it?
Customer: I just typed the model number. the tv is 7 years old.
JA: Does the TV menu work? Do you have the same problem on all sources/inputs?
Customer: yes, the menu works with the ATT remote but all pictures on all channells have a black border. This is not the case on my smaller TV which is only a couple of years old.
JA: How long has this been an issue? What happened right before this popped up?
Customer: frankly I cant say as i didn't notice until someone else pointed it out recently.
JA: Anything else you want the TV expert to know before I connect you?
Customer: are you still there?
JA: No. I'm the TV Technician's Assistant.
Customer: I am trying to determine if the TV I have is HD compatible, If it is I have to figure out why it is not working correctly or consider purchasing a TV that it.

This should be only a yes or no question.

Hello

Welcome

Problem is not really to do with HD compatibility, I would say for the age of your set it will either be a 720 or 1080 set however that is not associated with borders the problem you have is with the aspect ratio specifically a conflict between the satellite or cable box and the TV ,i see you have replied so just take that in first and I will continue

What you need to do is >>

First, reboot the Cable/SAT box by disconnecting it from power for 5 mins and plugging it back in. Upon rebooting, if the screen aspect is still incorrect, then look for the following buttons on the Cable/SAT remote:

Aspect

Format
Zoom
HD Zoom
Ratio
(#) symbol under the 9 key

Try those buttons with the box remote and the TV remote so you get it correct

Let me know how this goes
