Lg 50pg20 starts up, horizontal black bar on top of screen

Customer Question

Lg 50pg20 starts up, horizontal black bar on top of screen with skinny red and green pixelated line running through that black bar. All is over the menu. Also red and green pixels on top of screen correlated to the column when the "no input" screen save is moving around in the middle of the screen. Need troubleshooting

The tv was like this when i got it, so not sure if it was progressive or not. Date of manufacture is 2008/2009. I need to troubleshoot this doen to an individual bpard, preferrably an individual component, or down to the panel.

Hi thanks for that,

Are you saying that you get this screen issue on just the menus?

Or on every input? Including TV channels?

Thanks for that information,

These sets of this model have a batch of bad capacitors in them causing this issue.

Its a known issue.

They seem to fail prematurely.

If you have electronics knowledge and the equipment you could locate the bad electrolytic capacitors and replace them. But if not you will need to have this set serviced professionally.

Best Buy and Sears are tow excellent places to have this service done.

They are both fair priced and honest as well;-)

I wish I had better news for you on this , I really do. This is not just isolated to just one circuit board.

In any case, I will stick with you until this is complete.

Please rate my service kindly.

Also it is the only way I am credited for my time and expertise with you.

Once you rate, I will be notified and will add your question to my priority list so you can reach me anytime until this problem is solved.

Then you can reach me by simply replying to this message anytime.

Thank you and have a great day!

So we talkin about bad caps on the power board, main board, both? More?

Expert:  Master Fix It replied 6 months ago.

Hi, most likely they will be on the power board.

You can try just replacing that board.

I cant say for sure if there are others without testing the other boards.

But since you have this problem on all inputs including the menus Its a good bet replacing the power board will solve this issue.

If you are going to do this yourself, also unplug each connector and re plug it, as sometimes poor connections can also cause this problem.

If you rate kindly, I will stick with you until you have this solved.

Once you rate, (and there is no cost for that) you will have access to me for 30 days;-)

Thank you

Sincerely

Can we check output voltages to see if its the power supply to determine if its that and/or something else?

Expert:  Master Fix It replied 6 months ago.

Hi, in this case its a bit more complicated than that.

You would really need an oscilloscope and and few other pieces of equipment to test this supply.

And anyway what I suspect is that the frequency s off somewhere on the board causing this issue, not a voltage drop necessarily. More than likely not the case in this instance.

I wish I had better news for you, but that board is available from: http://www.shopjimmy.com/lg/50pg20-ua

I will continue with you if you need me further.

Please rate kindly, I will still be with you;-)

Thank you
