What is the source of your tv channels (aerial, satellite, cable, etc)? Will it record non hd programming?
Do you find this happens on all channels, Donald?Have you ever updated the recorder firmware?
Do you need more help with this?
Can you please answer the questions that I've asked?
Do you need more help with this?If so, simply reply back on this page.

Thank you for confirming,
the recorder itself is the issue here, it is a very basic low end model. This is not a HD capable recorder, it does have a built in tuner, but it is SD only. This record does not have the capability of recording in high def.
Being able to record digital channels does not mean it can record high def, it is still a digital signal but it is only recording the lower standard def resolution. You can confirm that in the specs direct from LG that note it as having a "SD TUNER" only, with no mention of HD anywhere, because it does not possess that feature: http://www.lg.com/au/dvd-blu-ray-players/lg-RC689D
There is no way to change that as it is a limitation of the actual hardware/electronics. I can recommend another model for you that would be hd, if you would prefer.
