Expert:  Jack replied 3 months ago.

O.k and the tv actually turns off as if you had pressed the power button ?

Expert:  Jack replied 3 months ago.

That box , does it have a config menu ?

Customer: replied 3 months ago.
ive already tried the CEC
Customer: replied 3 months ago.
it was off i turned it on and it still does it
Expert:  Jack replied 3 months ago.

Let me have the model number of that box please , I believe I know what is happening and the tv is not the problem here

Expert:  Jack replied 3 months ago.

This tv is a few years old and has a maximum resolution of 720p or 1080i and while your cable box is auto adjusting to this , I don`t think that box is and is trying to drive 1080p resolution and cause the tv to shutdown

So unless you can tell that box to output a max res of 1080i , it won`t do

I take it that this box only has HDMI out ?

Expert:  Jack replied 3 months ago.

If it has only hdmi then perhaps this converter (or one like it ) could be used to take down the resolution into component type connection ;

it has a setting to change the setting to 1080i
Customer: replied 3 months ago.
its set there
Expert:  Jack replied 3 months ago.

It still shuts down the tv ?

Customer: replied 3 months ago.
yep then i have to unplug from the power cable plug it back in
Customer: replied 3 months ago.
it will run for a while then do it again
Customer: replied 3 months ago.
but it doesnt always do it
Expert:  Jack replied 3 months ago.

O.k then this is how I see it , we know this box is the culprit if the tv runs fine otherwise , no need to fool around with your tv and at this point what I see as the solution is to try and convert the digital signal that does not agree with your tv into analog .

Those units are not the state of the art when it comes to compatibility anyway , its either another different model or that 20 bucks converter.

Again , your tv is old but fine , it just cannot cope with this device

Customer: replied 3 months ago.
does it matter what brand i buy
Expert:  Jack replied 3 months ago.

You mean the converter , if so then NO , just make sure it also has the audio and watch out , plenty of "component to HDMI " but you need the reverse HDMI>>>COMPONENT + AUDIO

Any questions on this ?
