Have TV Questions? Ask a TV Technician
Perhaps I can help you with this problem , a few questions coming up and please note that it may take a few minutes between replies;
What type of cables /connection do you have between the cable box and tv ?
Is it coaxial in the tv`s antenna terminal or color coded component cables ?
O.k then your tv should be either on channel 3 or 4
Can you try to manually set it there if you have the tv`s remote ?
enter the digts 03 or 04 and see what you get
We cross posted
You still managed to go through the channel scan without the remote ?
Do you have a composite red/white/yellow cable handy ?
Or any rca cable for that matter
It should have found the correct channel and locked on it
If you press channel up or down now , does it go anywhere ?
When you went in the menu , did you select CABLE BOX SETUP or AUTO SET ?
The cable box setup option will let you select channel 3 or 4
Just saw your last reply and I think your TV's tuner may be defective , go back in the menu and select cable box setup and choose channel 4 , we already know channel 3 doesn`t work
What do you mean you don`t have access , you told me you ran the channel scan
I see ,
Right now the way I see it you either have a bad coaxial cable or the TV's own tuner is defective and for a tv that age that would not surprise me , certainly looks like it now.
Your other option would be to use the audio /video input at the rear but you need to change the input and there are no such button on the tv itself so you need a remote here , even if it is a cheap $10 remote , you need one to go any further , no way around that now
You can get a cheap universal remote at places like Walmart , bestbuy etc.
By the way , just though of something ;
If you press channel down below channel 2 , does it go to video mode ?
