Hi , I`m Jack an independent TV/AUDIO repairman with 40 years experience.
Perhaps i can help you with this , please let me know when you see this.

Customer: replied 6 months ago.
i see your message
Expert:  Jack replied 6 months ago.

O.k then can you tell me how you mean " connect to internet " ?

Do you mean for example internet radio stations like Pandora or you want to play the TV's internal apps on the sound system ?

Customer: replied 6 months ago.
both
Expert:  Jack replied 6 months ago.

O.k then lets substract one from "both "

Sorry but forget what I said about internet radio , this receiver doesn`t do internet so that leaves only the TV's internet apps , perhaps you can find music channels in there

Expert:  Jack replied 6 months ago.

You will need to connect the sony to your tv with a HDMI cable , did you do that ?

Customer: replied 6 months ago.
ok .. so how do i connect to us TV aps ...
Expert:  Jack replied 6 months ago.

You will need to connect the sony to your tv with a HDMI cable first , did you do that ?

Expert:  Jack replied 6 months ago.

I just realized that we are on 2 posts , I sent you a reply on the other post yesterday and you never came back

Expert:  Jack replied 6 months ago.

Doesn`t matter anyway , I will have the other one closed

Expert:  Jack replied 6 months ago.

What is connected to this tv ?
Cable box,satellite,dvd,games etc. ?

And most important now , how is this all connected ?

Customer: replied 6 months ago.
the tv, cable box and receiver are connected and functional .. when i switch to net flex for movies ... i don't hear surrond sound .. only tv sound
Expert:  Jack replied 6 months ago.

Is the cable box connected to the sony first and from there to the tv or connected to the tv first

Customer: replied 6 months ago.
all connected with hdmi cables
Expert:  Jack replied 6 months ago.

o.k then it is CABLE BOX >>>> SONY >>>> TV , is that correct ?

Customer: replied 6 months ago.
correct
Expert:  Jack replied 6 months ago.

O.k then that's good so far .

So now in order to get the sound from the TV's internal apps you will need to use the ARC (audio return channel) of the HDMI connection .

Give me 5 minutes or so to type this down

Expert:  Jack replied 6 months ago.

The sony connected into the HDMI 1 on the tv ?

Customer: replied 6 months ago.
ok
Expert:  Jack replied 6 months ago.

Tv`s internal speakers OFF
DGITAL AUDIO OUT = PCM

Expert:  Jack replied 6 months ago.

Thats the tv`s audio menu

Expert:  Jack replied 6 months ago.

As far as the tv`s setting goes that should be it and now for the sony

Customer: replied 6 months ago.
ok .. did that
Expert:  Jack replied 6 months ago.

On some receivers (most of them ) you have to manually turn on the ARC function but i cannot find such an item on this receiver so i`ll assume that it is on by default.

Open your apps and and play netflix for example then on the sony remote press TV , by default it should switch to ARC , dont forget to turn up the volume

Customer: replied 6 months ago.
volumne turned up .. no sound
Expert:  Jack replied 6 months ago.

Think i found where it is hidden on the sony , just a minute

Expert:  Jack replied 6 months ago.

open the home menu and go to SETTINGS >> HDMI SETTINGS >>>> CONTROL FOR HDMI and set it to ON then get out of there and try it again

Expert:  Jack replied 6 months ago.

I just double checked and that is it for the sony

Expert:  Jack replied 6 months ago.

note that you may have to turn the units off and on again for it to register

Expert:  Jack replied 6 months ago.

tv and sony

Customer: replied 6 months ago.
ok .. i will turn on and off .. so far no sound from net flix
Expert:  Jack replied 6 months ago.

Did you find the hdmi control and set it to on ?

Expert:  Jack replied 6 months ago.

also try the other inputs on the sony , normally it should be TV button but who knows , try the others

Customer: replied 6 months ago.
Customer: replied 6 months ago.
u said the TV should be in the ARC hdmi connection
Expert:  Jack replied 6 months ago.

Thats correct , HDMI 1 on this tv i believe , it will be marked near the HDMI port

Expert:  Jack replied 6 months ago.

On your sony`s front display the ARC indicator will come on when it receives something or correctly set to ARC

Customer: replied 6 months ago.
tv hdmi 1 to receiver hdmi out tvcable to hdmi sat/catv
Expert:  Jack replied 6 months ago.

The sony`s manual is infuriating , it doesn`t say EXACTLY which input is the ARC assigned to but again it SHOULD be tv as there are no TV input at the rear

Customer: replied 6 months ago.
correct .. very frustrating
Expert:  Jack replied 6 months ago.

your connections are correct and i don`t know why they make so dam complicated to turn on but i can tell you that sony says that with a sony tv (of course) this comes on almost automatic .

Expert:  Jack replied 6 months ago.

Now i`ll have to assume the vizio is not sending out anything through the arc .

Let me take a look

Customer: replied 6 months ago.
i have the right connection .. arc out to tv hdmi 1
Expert:  Jack replied 6 months ago.

now it is talking abut a sony hdmi cable for arc

Do you know what version of hdmi cable you have ?

At least version 1.4 or better yet 2.0 ?

Customer: replied 6 months ago.
where does it say that on the cable
Expert:  Jack replied 6 months ago.

never mnd that , its usally on the package

Expert:  Jack replied 6 months ago.

go back in the tv`s menu and select BITSTREAM instead of PCM

Expert:  Jack replied 6 months ago.

hold everything , think i got it

Expert:  Jack replied 6 months ago.

Go in the tv`s menu and open SYSTEM then go to CEC , open this and set it to ENABLE then exit and try it again

Expert:  Jack replied 6 months ago.

better yet , the ARC should switch the sony to the correct input automatically when you use it if both units talk to each other , otherwise you will have to do it manually like now

Expert:  Jack replied 6 months ago.

got anything now ?

Customer: replied 6 months ago.
sound from tv only
Customer: replied 6 months ago.
i will have to try this again later
Expert:  Jack replied 6 months ago.

sound from tv ???

Customer: replied 6 months ago.
thanks for your help
Customer: replied 6 months ago.
how much did this cost me
Expert:  Jack replied 6 months ago.

You`re supposed to turn off the speakers

Customer: replied 6 months ago.
i did that
Expert:  Jack replied 6 months ago.

nothing yet and i did not get paid fro that hour either

Customer: replied 6 months ago.
they keep coming back on
Expert:  Jack replied 6 months ago.

Thats where your problem is then , the tv .

Expert:  Jack replied 6 months ago.

lets resume later , i may have an epiphany during that time

Expert:  Jack replied 6 months ago.

Just had this epiphany ,

Expert:  Jack replied 6 months ago.

Get yourself a standard rca stereo cable and connect it in the TV's audio out and sony`s SAT/TV input and set it to that input and voila !

You can also set that audio out to variable in the TV's menu if you want to control the sound with the TV's remote , just preset the sony sound to halfway volume for example.

Was so bent on the arc function that I forgot about that audio out on the tv LOL

Have fun and please do not forget to rate positively so I get paid for my time .
