Have TV Questions? Ask a TV Technician
Hello, I’m Nathan, and I’ll be assisting you today. My livelihood depends on your positive feedback, so your satisfaction is my highest priority.
Sorry to hear you’re having trouble.
Can you describe the screensaver that you are seeing? If you press an onboard button (on the tv itself) does the screen go away? What sources/inputs are you using with the tv?
Please answer each of the specific questions, I need as much detail as possible to be able to help.
Okay, and if you press a button on the xfinity box or remote, does the screensaver go away then?
When you change channels? When you adjust volume?
What about with pressing other buttons, do they not respond if you press channel or volume on the xfinity remote?
Do you ever have this issue on any other input such as dvd, netflix, etc?
Okay, that sounds like the comcast box is the issue, not the tv.
These tvs don't even have a screen saver feature that would come on in this context.
If volume is working, then the tv is fine.
The other functions are not working because the box is having signal output issues. If you have the "x1" box, this type of problem is very common, there are a lot of faulty x1 boxes out there that just don't communicate properly via hdmi.
Try unplugging power to the box for 60 seconds to reboot it.
If that still doesn't help, then you'd contact comcast to have them replace the box for you.
That still sounds like a box issue.
The way to confirm that is by testing some other source, other than the comcast box. You can use built in lg apps like netflix, a dvd player, etc.
If the problem doesn't happen there, it confirms it is a xfinity problem
I don't think it is a tv issue, and if it were related to the tv remote, you'd see on screen prompts telling you to set up the lg magic remote, or other similar notices, not screensaver photos
Perhaps not apps, but you could at least test an external input, like dvd for example, you just need to change the input using the input button on the tv
Yes, that would work fine.
You could also just unplug the xfinity hdmi cable from the tv, if the screensaver suddenly stops and doesn't come back, that would also confirm the box is at fault
Thank you for confirming.
You hadn't mentioned seeing LG ultra on the screen before, sorry for the misunderstanding.
It is not possible to access the menu or change any settings without the remote. If you need a new remote, you can get one here: http://amzn.to/1PthvFI
You can also go to the app store on a smartphone/tablet and install the lg tv remote app (assuming you have configured the tv to your home wifi network already) and use that app to control the tv.
From the menu, you are looking for Initial Settings, or Factory Reset, after doing that you'll be prompted to set a Use Mode and you'll pick HOME (not store/retail).
Well if you haven't done it already, you really can't without the remote.
The tv has to be on wifi already before the app can work. You could however plug the tv into the router directly with an ethernet cable, that doesn't need any special configuration or menu steps.
search for LG Tv Remote, and make sure the app actually says published by LG
