I have a 65 inch tv - almost 12 years old. Today a black box

Customer Question

I have a 65 inch tv - almost 12 years old. Today a black box covers most of the screen. I have access to the menu, and have the remote. I can change the channel. The tv is hooked up to a Cox cable box. I have tried to change plp and cc settings. Sometimes the boxes multiply, but I cannot get the to go away. Any ideas?

Hi , I`m Jack
Perhaps I can help you with this problem , let me know when you`re ready ?
Also , could you please give me the tv`s model number ?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Ok. I don't know the model #. All I have is MITWS65315
Expert:  Jack replied 1 year ago.

No problem , that's good , WS-65315 it is

If you turn off the cable box , does that change anything on the screen , does that affect that square ?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
No. It doesn't change the box
Expert:  Jack replied 1 year ago.

O.k then the tv itself generates that and if it does multiply at times as you said then it has to be something about the PIP

On the TV's remote if you press the PIP/POP button does that do anything ?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
No
Expert:  Jack replied 1 year ago.

O.k then and about the caption you said you did something to it ?

Does that mean you turned it OFF ?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
I don't understand.
Expert:  Jack replied 1 year ago.

I`ll get back on that later .

Is the switch at the top of the remote set to TV ?

Is that the tv`s original remote ?

That PIP/POP button should have some sort of effect even if it doesn`t correct the problem ,it cannot be dead

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
I found the caption menu, and turned it off
Expert:  Jack replied 1 year ago.

O.k then and now ???

Expert:  Jack replied 1 year ago.

Is that CC in text mode gone off the screen ?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Now I see no picture, only black, and the menu
Expert:  Jack replied 1 year ago.

O.k then now is the time to play with that PIP/POP

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
I don't understand 'text mode'. Please explain
Expert:  Jack replied 1 year ago.

Never mind that , that is what was on the screen , that square but its gone now so lets get back to the tv ?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
I see no picture.
Expert:  Jack replied 1 year ago.

That's closed caption text mode and that hasn`t been used in over 25 Years

Expert:  Jack replied 1 year ago.

You must have touched something like changed the TV's input or something , the closed caption cannot cut off the picture

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
This isn't helping.
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Then what do I do to get the picture back?
Expert:  Jack replied 1 year ago.

What isn`t helping ?

Check on which input you are

Do you still have the sound ?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
I have sound
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
I don't know how to change the input.
Expert:  Jack replied 1 year ago.

That's what I`m trying to do here but I don`t know what you touched beside the captions , as I said the captions cannot turn off the picture , at most it would be that box .

If you have sound through the tv then don`t touch the input

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
I don't understand that last sentence
Expert:  Jack replied 1 year ago.

Again , if you press that PIP button and the one above it

Does it do anything ?

Expert:  Jack replied 1 year ago.

The one above it is PIP INPUT

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
There is no button above pip
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
It just changes the display to say: dvd dtv 1080 standard
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Are you still there?
Expert:  Jack replied 1 year ago.

Sorry but I cannot be there to do this myself and by the look of it the remote is not the same as in the manual for the model number you gave me and who knows what else is different

Last thing I can think of is to pull out the TV's power cord to reset it

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
I already did that
Expert:  Jack replied 1 year ago.

Also , you are saying that the PIP button doesn`t do anything while it should ?????

I will have to opt out now.

You don`t have to do anything , your question will be reposted for other techs. to see and jump in.
