Customer Question

Customer: Hi.. My name is ***** *****
JA: Thanks. Can you give me any more details about your issue?
Customer: I hooked up my sound bar to TV fine but when using my Apple TV sound comes only from the TV instead of coming from sound bar. I'm using that little square connectors to sound bar and to cable box
JA: OK got it. Last thing — JustAnswer charges a fee (generally around $18) to post your type of question to TV Experts (you only pay if satisfied). There are a couple customers ahead of you. Are you willing to wait a bit?

Expert:  Jack replied 1 year ago.

Thanks

And you said that right now the sound bar connected to the cable box and working ?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Expert:  Jack replied 1 year ago.

O.k and it is still connected to the cable box only or to the tv ?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Only to the sound box because the tv doesn't seem to have the Optical cable outlet... I'm using that cable
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
I'm sorry only to the cable box
Expert:  Jack replied 1 year ago.

In your opening post you said first that you connected it to the tv and it was working , was that a typo ?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
it works but not when I'm using my Apple TV
Expert:  Jack replied 1 year ago.

Right now one thing is for sure, if the soundbar is connected to the cable box then it definitely won`t get anything from the apple tv .

The soundbar needs to be connected to the tv

Give me a minute please

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Apple TV is connected to HDMI on tv
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Ok
Expert:  Jack replied 1 year ago.

O.k then here is what you need to do ;

Your tv does not have optical but it has coaxial digital out at the back and your sound bar has that type of input just above the optical you are using now.

This requires a simple RCA type rca to connect then set your sound bar to that input and now you should have the sound from both units

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
ok let me try
Expert:  Jack replied 1 year ago.

On your tv the DIGITAL AUDIO out is just beside input 7

Expert:  Jack replied 1 year ago.

No problem , take your time

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
ok i have a digital coaxal cable which has 1 plug on both ends and i have a 3.5MM cable which has 1 plug on one end and 2 plugs on the other which one do i use and which outlets on the tv do i use?
Expert:  Jack replied 1 year ago.

You know what a RCA cable is ,yes ?

Expert:  Jack replied 1 year ago.

You can use a stereo cable , just used one side only and as i said look at the back right beside INPUT 7 and there is a single RCA type jack that should say DIGITAL AUDIO

Expert:  Jack replied 1 year ago.

Give me a minute here

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
looking at the visio manual its the 3.5MM to RCA cable
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
ok then plug the 2 plugs into where on the TV?
Expert:  Jack replied 1 year ago.

click the link below and if that link opens a login window popup then just close it with the upper corner X or the "no thanks . continue to view"

I believe you can figure the type of cable now

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
cables are on but still no sound
Expert:  Jack replied 1 year ago.

Did you set the soundbar to that input ?

Expert:  Jack replied 1 year ago.

Are the tv speakers turned off?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
to both questions
Expert:  Jack replied 1 year ago.

You mentioned earlier that you had a 3.5 mm to rca cable ?

In that case use the headphone jack on the tv and into the rca audio 1 on the soundbar , you are certain to have sound there but don`t forget to turn the internal speakers back on first

Expert:  Jack replied 1 year ago.

Your tv is one of those that won`t give out digital sound when the source is HDMI like your apple tv

Expert:  Jack replied 1 year ago.

By using the headphone jack you will have whatever sound is now playing in the tv speakers so you will have sound on everything

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
ok trying that
Expert:  Jack replied 1 year ago.

o.k

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
ok sorry i have a stupid question.... i can't seem to find headphone jack
Expert:  Jack replied 1 year ago.

Left rear side just above HDMI 1

Expert:  Jack replied 1 year ago.

On the TV's left side

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
ok on the left side the rca cable just slides into the small outlet above the HDMI connection
Expert:  Jack replied 1 year ago.

Thats a 3.5mm ***** *****ke for headphones for a walkman or ipod etc, not RCA

Expert:  Jack replied 1 year ago.

Did you find it ?

Plug that 3.5 mm plug you have into it now

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
ok the 3.5 jack doesn't fit well but the other end does then where do i plug the 3.5 end to the sound bar?
Expert:  Jack replied 1 year ago.

What type of cable do you have ??

Both ends 3.5mm plug ?

Expert:  Jack replied 1 year ago.

only one 3.5 mm jack on the sound bar !

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
the ones that came with the visio has 2 different cables...1 with the headphone jack and 2 3.5 mm cables on the other
Expert:  Jack replied 1 year ago.

Fine , do you have that cable plugged in now ??

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
the headphone is plugged in but into which one on the soundbar and the red or white or does it matter
Expert:  Jack replied 1 year ago.

The red and white INPUT 1 and no it does not matter who red or white give it a try PLEASE

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
