I would disagree with that assessment - if you are still getting sound, the tcon would not be a likely cause of that.
Is the screen still lit/glowing?
Well we aren't done yet, I was just beginning the conversation and the dialogue is open still.
Would you like the main board part number? That is what I'd replace.
I'm not on site though, if he actually did diagnostics with a meter and found a short in the tcon causing shutdown, that could (rarely) result in no pic/sound.
