Thanks

Is the screen just blank with some background light or completely dark like when the tv is off ?
If you are not sure then darken the room and turn the tv off and on again while you observe the screen .

Still had the sound when the picture went off ?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Completely black. We do not use the sound on the actual tv we have a home theater set up to it
Expert:  Jack replied 1 year ago.

O.k then beside the no picture situation you are saying that the tv appears to turn on/off with the remote as normal ?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
I guess. The red light comes on when its unplugged and plugged back in. The remote doesnt turn it off. Because if its off the red light is on
Expert:  Jack replied 1 year ago.

O.k then this is a known problem with the TV's main board , namely its eeprom chip .

how do you want to proceed from here ?
Look into this yourself or the repair shop ?

Let me know and i will help you along if you wish to look into repairing this yourself ,otherwise i will give you the details and costs you could expect.

By the way , is it over or under a year old ?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
We bought it in October of last year
Expert:  Jack replied 1 year ago.

O.k then just over the year old and in any case these rca have to be shipped out to the closest service center and for a 50" that could be expensive and complicated.

Give me a minute and I will give you some details

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Thanks. I do have them coming out but not until Thursday and I am a stay at home mom

The main board for this tv is not very expensive at $70 so you will know what it cost in case they try to markup the price a bit too high .

There are several versions of it and you can see them at the link below , click on it and you are looking at the main boards ;

To have this replaced at home should not cost you above 150 to $175 + parts , so at the most $250 altogether .
