I have an lg 50la6200 that was t by a power surge.

Customer Question

I have an lg 50la6200 that was hit by a power surge. originally I would turn it on and the power light would blink a few times then go off like normal but no picture sound or backlight. I replaced the power board and got it to come on showing the LG boot screen a couple of times but still didn't fix it. I then replaced the main board and now it blinks 4 times, pauses blinks 4 times pauses until I pull the power

I'm here and with the tv
Expert:  Dan replied 1 year ago.

OK, I need the part numbers on the boards you installed. Also, where did you get them?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
LG LN5100-UB EAX64905501(2.0) E148279 POWER SUPPLY. from amazon. but it seems to do the same thing with both power supplies.
and EBT62368521 from openboxcity.com this was a hard board to find

OK, thank you. I need to see a picture of the back of the TV with the rear panel removed. Please ensure the picture shows all the circuit boards at once.

Hi the previous expert has opted out, I am Tech Michael.

Can you tell me what caused the power surge so I can be sure of what may be wrong?

Thank you

It was lightning. I'm not exactly sure where it came into the tv
Expert:  Master Fix It replied 1 year ago.

Thank you for that. That tells me quite a bit.

Lightning is in the millions of volts range and usually causes severe damage to any electronic device it hits.

You replaced the main but you will also need the power supply board on this one as its likely all out of whack and since the current passes there first it likely lost some of its output supplies or the current behind the voltages.

You will need to replace also the power supply board to fix this one.

In any case, I will stick with you until this is complete.

I did replace the power board. It doesn't seem to make a difference which power board I use.
Expert:  Master Fix It replied 1 year ago.

Hi what didn't you replace?

Also where did you get your new power board from and do you have a meter for testing?

Thank you

Tech Michael

I got the power board from amazon. I do have a meter. I've checked the power plug on both the main and power board and the voltages are all correct
Expert:  Master Fix It replied 1 year ago.

Thank you for that I needed this info to advise you correctly.

In this case you have a bad main board, these come in bad to me even all the time.

Also static electricity can hurt these boards really easily.

I will advise you how to do this safely.

Precautions must be used before handling these boards outside the TV's chassis.

I will bet you got a bad one so you need to return that one for an exchange.

Amazon is excellent with regards ***** ***** or exchanges;-)

I will stick with you until this is complete.

That's what I suspected too. I have another one coming as of last night
Expert:  Master Fix It replied 1 year ago.

Oh wow,

You really should get a surge protector as well lol;-)

I think that the new board will solve this issue with the new supply as well.

I will stick with you in case you still have this problem. But please rate kindly at the top so we can keep this open to me.

There is no cost for you to rate;-)

Thank you

I replaced the power board first and got it to come up with the LG logo on the screen a couple of times but cant get it to do it again. is it possible the new power board was damaged by hooking it up to a bad main board?
Expert:  Master Fix It replied 1 year ago.

Hi it is possible but not likely, I would check its output voltages but other than that you should be ok when you use that new one with the new replacement board.

Amazon is used to reruns on these parts it happens quite often.

it's weird that I have voltage at the led connection but there not coming on. they did come on when the logo appeared
Expert:  Master Fix It replied 1 year ago.

Hi I understand, that is because the main board is failing further is all.

No worries. Its not the supply.
